Turf Laying and New Lawns in Bedford

A new lawn is mostly groundwork. The turf itself is the last hour of the job, and it will only look right if what is underneath it was done properly.

We lift and clear whatever is there, take the level out, and prepare a firm, even bed before any turf arrives. That means removing the old lawn or vegetation rather than rolling turf over the top of it, breaking up compaction, and adding screened topsoil where there is not enough depth to root into.

Turf is then laid in staggered courses, butted tight so the joints do not open up as it settles, and cut in cleanly against paths, beds and edges. On a garden that slopes or sits low we will talk to you about drainage first, because a lawn that holds water will not thrive whatever you lay on it.

New turf needs water, and quite a lot of it, for the first few weeks. We will tell you plainly what it needs and when it is safe to walk on and to cut for the first time, so the lawn you paid for is still there in a year.
