Fencing and Gates in Bedford
Most fences fail at the posts, not the panels. Getting the posts right is most of what you are paying for.
We fit closeboard, panel and post-and-rail fencing, and we will be straight with you about which suits the run. Closeboard is heavier, lasts longer and copes with wind. Panels are quicker and cheaper and are the right answer for a sheltered boundary. Post-and-rail is for a paddock or a field edge, not for privacy.
Posts go in to a proper depth and are set so the run stays true, with concrete or timber posts depending on the ground and on what you want it to look like. On an exposed boundary we will talk about gravel boards and post spacing, because a fence that sits in wet soil at the bottom rots there first.
Gates are hung to the gap you actually have. Old openings are rarely square, and a standard gate forced into an out-of-square gap either binds or drops within a year.
Worth knowing before you plan: in England you can normally put up a fence to two metres without planning permission, but only one metre if it is next to a road used by vehicles or a footpath beside one. It is also worth checking which boundary is yours before work starts, and we will raise it if it looks unclear.
