Garden Design and Landscaping in Bedford
A whole-garden project is a sequence, and the order matters. Groundwork and drainage come before anything you can see.
We start by looking at what the garden is doing now. Where the sun actually falls through the day, where water sits after rain, what the levels are doing, and how we are going to get materials in and spoil out. Access is the constraint that most often changes a plan, and it is better to find it on the first visit than halfway through.
From there we work out the hard structure. Levels, retaining, paths, patios, steps and drainage runs. Planting comes last, into ground that has been prepared for it, which is the opposite order to how most gardens get done and the reason so many need doing again a few years later.
Larger projects can be phased across seasons so the cost is spread and the disruption is contained. We would rather build half a garden properly this year than all of it badly, and we will tell you which parts genuinely need doing first.
